Question Cattleya or Lc

A orchid in my collection is labeled c. Esbetts 'Blumen Insel'. There is no grower name on the back of the tag but it's listed as a white.

When I do a search for this flower, I get 'Lc' not cattleya. Also I get Lc Esbetts CLOWN 'Blumen Insel' which is a white with yellow flares, very nice.

The wording or lack of wording on this tag has me a bit confused.

Thanks!

Lc Esbetts is a cross of C. Esbetts and Lc Colorama. the one you have in your collection is probably the original cattleya hybrid, not the Lc.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society, it is listed as Cattleya Esbetts, registered 1956. Registrant is Shibua and Originator Fukumura.

The other is Lc Esbetts Clown, 1987 from Stewarts.

Your guy is just an oldie. Alot of them are still being 'discovered' by todays growers.
