What type of dendrobium is this? common name and scientific name? the flower is small - the coin's diameter is 3cm. i have white (in photo); pink and maroon planted in the same pot
As an Aussie, from the land of bigibbums, I agree with Taipan that it does look as though it has Dendrobium Bigibbum in it. Someone else may have some other ideas.
I have one that is perfectly identical. I got it in a garden center, and the label said it came from Jungle Orchids. I googled the company, and found out that it's named Dendrobium Borneo. I checked, the name is not listed on the RHS website. So I still have no clue what its parentage is!

The Phalaenanthe group of Dendrobium ie D.bigibbum v superbum & v bigibbum; etc ( excluding D.williamsianum which some people claim belongs to sect.spathulata ) are found from Nth Aust. the islands in the Torres straight ( separates Aust.from PNG ) & the Timor sea. None of this group extends into Borneo. D.Borneo may be a hybrid if anything. However D.bigibbum var compactum is confined to a few mtn's behind Cairns in Nth Qld.. The plant does not get very big at all. I have spoken to a friend that used to work at the Bot.garden in Lae, PNG & he has said that D.bigibbum to his knowledge is not found in PNG.
