I used to make the poles from the slabs the mills cut off of cypress - with the bark still on it. Also other types. A friend in Tennessee planted a palm in her indoor garden and let her vanilla climb it - which works just fine!

What are the other dimensions of the one you use? I see a couple of 2 ft. section options, but don't know what width or depth I should go for.

Maitiman (sorry if I spelled that wrong), what size of branches do you use? I woudln't mind going for some other type of product, I just want something that will hold up to the elements because I grow outdoors.

Thanks all for your help!

2 by 2 by 2...that is easy enough to remember! Thanks!

vmax...I can't help it that I got lucky and landed in Central Fl! I am happy to invite other orchid lovers down here! The 'chids love it. I can thank my parents for planting me here after much resistance to leaving Illinois. At least when you grow indoors you don't have to deal with slugs, snails, hurricanes, other pests, etc! So, maybe you are the lucky one that you don't have a choice?!? I would post those cute little emoticons, but I am lazy...so, that would have been the scratch head one!

Hey Jenn,
I did a triathlon in Florida a couple years back and it was stunningly beautiful. In Texas, although it is my home and for the most part, I love it, it's HOT here right now and my greenhouse suffers....so I complain. If I am not complaining, check my pulse ! No offense meant by my snarky comment...FL is gorgeous, but someone in Texas is paying me....gotta support my habit

I wasn't taking offense. Maybe if I wasn't lazy and had posted some little emoticons that would have helped. I was just messing with you!
