Rescued these from a trash heap. What are they?

Among my hobbies is driving the alleys in my South Florida hometown, looking for castoff plants. I found these two plants two or three years ago, tossed on a pile. Naturally, I rescued them. They're hanging happily in a tree and this year rewarded me with flowers. One has at least five bloom spikes. The other has three. Now, can you all help identify them? Thanks for any help that you can provide. -Steve

It looks like some sort of shomburgkia. Can you post a pic of the plant.

I would definately agree with Schomburkia (now called Myrmecophila). Not an expert on them, my best guess would be Schomburkia (Myrmecophila) tibicinis. The color looks a little light, especially in the lip.

Nice find. All I ever find in the garbage is rotting food and dirty diapers! Yuk!

What a find. Very nice blooms. I'm just gonna go right ahead and say it. I'm jealous........okay, nah, nah , nah. Only thing I ever see in alleys are rats...

You FOUND these as throw-away plants in an alley?!?! Ugh, I LOATHE you Floridians (just kidding ). The only plants people in my neighborhood throw away are poison ivy plants or dead tree limbs. Congratulations on your find--and the flowers. They're beautiful.

Thanks a bunch. Yes, these plants are HUGE and not the only orchids I've found on my field trips. Not to rub it in, but my entire yard is landscaped with plants I've found over the past three years or so, as well as a couple of trees provided at no charge through a county program. I haven't bought a single plant (well, we bought a few orchids a few weeks ago at the Redlands show). It takes a bit longer to grow-in, but i enjoy it. Among other things, I have:

1. at least 10 varieties of bromeliads
2. at least 7 varieties of plumeria
3. Brugmansia
4. Ti plants (I think that's what they're called)
5. maybe 3 varieties of banana
6. assorted ferns
7. maybe 3 varieties of heliconia
8. a couple of varieties of ginger
9. an 8-10' tall foxtail palm
10. a couple of other palms
11. three varieties of hibiscus
12. a 15' tall white bird of paradise
13. 2 types of crinum -- a giant purple and a green
14. a bunch of other stuff that I can't identify.

South Florida is an amazing place! Some of this stuff was still in the pot when the owners pitched them.
