GIN,
The pseudobulbs do look like cymbidium bulbs but I know of no cymbidium that bears flowers on the pseudobulb like your plant seems to be doing. The pseudobulbs also look like Eria densa and Eria floribunda pseudobulbs but they both have white flowers on longish spikes. It would appear to me that your flowers are going to turn out green and I do not recall having seen photographs of a green Eria that has pseudobulbs that look like that and which bear flowers close to the pseudobulb. When you post photos of the flowers please try and give some sort of idea of sizes of flowers and of pseudobulbs. I hope that somebody on the list can help you identify it.

Hi Gin,
I think it is an Eria. I have eria hyacinthioides looks exactly like yours. It's spiking now, about 3 inches tall. Will take pics and hopefully post them

Gin,
I went to the link that you referred us to for Eria stricta. The one photo (the one on the left) IMHO is not Eria stricta but looks to me like what we call Eria siamensis. However the photo of Eria siamensis in Opera Botanica No. 62 of April 1982 ("Orchid Genera in Thailand X : Trichotosia and Eria") has mauve/purple in the lip which our plants don't seem to have (they are small and I may not be seeing the mauve/purple!!! )
Look forward to seeing the photos of the open flowers. Hope a snail doesn't get there first!
