Alrighty... I need some expert orchid noggins for this one. This little plant was given to me by a lady who used to own an orchid shop here in town (the only one I might add). When she closed up her business at the beginning of the month, much to my dismay, I acquired this little strange thing from her green house. It almost looks like a small dendrobium, but slightly different in growth habit. What do you guys think? I can't wait to see it flower! Mysteries are so fun!

I could be way wrong, but unless those are going to be keiki's that are coming out of the side of the stalk, I don't think it is a dendrobium, but like I said, I could be really really wrong!

I don't believe those are keikis. This looks to be it's normal growth habit of the leaves. I had to bury a leaf or to in order to get it back in it's pot. The lady before me had this plant potted in a larger pot in large bark/charcoal. The plant itself was leaning off to the side growing sideways almost. I repotted it yesterday in tree fern fiber and stood it up.

I don't think it's Neobenthamia judging from the pictures. It's a tiny plant, and Neobenthamia isn't. Remember, this thing is fully mature.

Arundina.... isn't that the bamboo orchid that is found around Kiluea? If so, those are much larger with different leaf growth habits. Not familiar with any others in that family.

Odd!

Jenn,
Funny you mentioned the bamboo orchid, I was just thinking about this this morning for some reason and I thought it resembled bamboo, kind of like the lucky bamboo, but thinner stalkes, so I am sure it is not the same, but perhaps it is in the bamboo family and not the orchid family?

Becca... I thought about that too, but I do know that the plant flowers every year. I'm not sure if bamboo can do such a thing. I think the reason that it looks very bamboo like is the paper like sheath got pulled off. You know... like the paper like stuff that dens and cats get on them. The mystery continues...

Soonix, Epi. Flexuosum is waaaay too big.
