Default ID Question

Hey,

Posted this in the wrong forum before, so here it is in the right one.

Any idea on this one?
Alternatively, where do you guys go if you can't identify an orchid through the board?

I don't think that's an orchid either. I'm with Kavanaru, it looks like a Bromeliad.

Do you have a pic of the leaves/plant?

It's hard to identify certain hybrids down to their cultivar names. Some look too similar to each other. Some admittedly, are so distinct it's unmistakeable what the hybrid cultivar is. Others had no name to begin with, even at the breeder level.

For the positive identification of certain species, I ask around. Sometimes I'll get the answer I need. Other times I can't. There are also times I get referred to the botanists who named them. A few of those botanists can't be reached publicly.

I mean if I had to ask an ID question, it would be what in the world is the difference between Bulb. odoratissimum and Bulb trichosepalum? Other than them being listed as being in two different sections in the genus. What physical traits separate these two seemingly identical orchids? So far no one has the answer for me to this one.

sometimes at rochid shows you also have bromeliads and other plants as companions... most orchids don't have an especially nice foliage, and other plants are used to provide a better look to the exhibition.

do you by chance have a picture of the whole plant?

That's so pretty...but definitely not an orchid. Companion plants are often used in orchid displays. I'm sure somebody here will be able to come up with a name for you

'll keep an eye out next time i go over to the botanical gardens (they're running a container gardening exhibit i want to check out) - its great living 15 minutes away.

as to leaves...i took some pictures of the plant names but may have left this one out. on the off chance i did get it, the plant would be Passiflora aff. rubra (Passifloraceae) from the West Indies and South America.

i think that may be close to the actual species (see Flowers Digital Wildlife Nature Photography ) some of the flowers look a little similar, but i'm not even close to even a novice of such things. a google search brought up similar results.

One more thing I'd love to ID (i'm going to continue searching for this one since its a gorgeous plant), in the next thread....
