Decades Old No ID plants from Grandpa’s Yard

Hi everyone could you help me identify these two plants that have ultimately survived the test of time in my grandpa’s backyard who was an avid orchid collector. Both are tiny white flowers with odd shapes. One of them only blooms after extremely hard rain and the blooms last for a day.

I'm not versed in that type of orchid, but what a treasure to have still hanging around. Love it!

Those are both really neat! And are really impressive in size! Where do you live? (Since they are outside, might give a clue as to what they might be based on temperature range) Which one only lasts a day?

Hi Roberta I live in Hawaii so its rather warm year round and i'm at 1000ft elevation but the plants are in full sun year round outside with no coverings. The flowers on the original posting only last about a day. No clue but the plants span for feet across the fence.

Hmmm... On the white ones, not a clue. Do you have close-up photo of the flowers? The little pink ones look like they're in the Oncidium group but can't come any closer than that. Again, if you can post a close-up of the flower, might be able to do a little better.

I dont have any other photos of the white flowers right now but I have some images of the tiny pink flowers and one of the plants its coming off of.

Hmmm Not definitely not Oncidium. Seeing the plant, and the shape of the flowers, maybe a Pholidota? The ones I know are white or cream, but I'm not familiar with the more tropical ones.

Are the leaves stiff or a little bit soft? Some photos of Pholidota longipes look similar...most seem to be white but found some photos with a pink blush.

Or maybe an Eria (check out Eria spicata)

I likely have not guessed right on the species, but perhaps one of these two genera? Take a look at photos of the leaves and growth habit, and perhaps you can tell if I am even close... hard to tell from photos.

No matter what, Roberta is one of the best identifiers I know. I still think it’s just cool that you have this plant that your grandpa grew.

Oh my gosh thank you so much! The plant body definitely look closer to the Pholidota Longpipes but youre right the leaves are stiff and thicker.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, I wouldn't have even known where to start looking.
