C. intermedia cross? Help with ID
Red face C. intermedia cross? Help with ID

Hi guys! I’m new to OrchidBoard. I’m having trouble IDing this one I picked up at a local nursery. I think it has C. intermedia in it because of the little side lobes in the lip and also the coloring. Also thinking it is crossed with a brassavola type because of the size of the plant and flowers. Does anyone recognize this? Thanks!

I agree that it looks like intermedia, or perhaps violacea, but it doesnt look quite like a brassavola hybrid.

I would bet its other parent is a rupiculous Cattleya. I cant find a hybrid that looks similar but that would be my guess.

First, Welcome!

The lip looks to me like there might be C walkeriana in the mix. (At first was thinking C. bicolor-shaped spade lip, but the rest of it doesn't look like it.) I also was thinking that there could be Brassavola in there, but other things could also give that "trumpet" effect. Nice find, whatever it is.

Ooo I think you are on to something good about the rupicolous Catt parent.. the petal shape is right for it. I should add that it smells faintly like magnolia during the day. Nothing at night - maybe another strike against brassavola? Thanks for your insight!

Thanks! I’ve been reading orchid board forums for a while and happy I finally joined. I grabbed this mystery orchid kind of on a whim and I’ve been loving trying to find out what it is. The nursery called it Mari’s Glory H&R but I disagreed so here we are! Thanks for your insight.

Looked up Mari's Glory (spelling) ... Not even close based on the Orchidwiz pictures . So the mystery deepens.

Did a Google search on the image. Didn't find anything that matches very well. But the search also pulled up C. amethystoglossa... and the lip sure some charateristics that indicate that it might be in the mix.

Agreed. I added in a reply to another poster but it does smell like magnolia during the day. Hmmmm

Ive been looking for something similar and i was just thinking the same thing. Amethystoglossa colors are there and the lip could be right too.

I was thinking interglossa x rupiculous cattleya. I cant find anything quite right though...

I was looking for something with a similar pattern on the lip - the closest I thought is Bc. Morning Glory. Still searching the rupi catts.
