Costa Rican Catasetums

I don't have pictures from last years blooms. This catasetum bloomed three seed pods that I didn't pollinate. I have a few different catasetums mostly small this was the only that bloomed. This plant is the reason I thought I should start flasking seeds! Now it has a bunch of new growth hoping for the same success. This picture is a profile picture got a different phone so once again last years photos have been lost. Thanks again. I'm trying to research catasetums that are native can't find much info.

For researching orchid species, the Internet Orchid Species Photographic Encyclopedia (IOSPE) at orchidspecies.com is a wealth of information. You could page through all the Catasetums and see which are native to CR.

That one looks like a Clowesia - could be either species or hybrid. So when you're searching, look for the other genera in that group as well as Catasetum. Looks to me a lot like Clowesia warczewitzii (warczewiczii). which is native to Costa Rica. Of the group, there are also a few Catasetums and some Cycnoches.

I think it is Clowesia warczewitzii thank you for the help. Most of the orchids I find on the ground after a storm and put them in a tree. I really need to look up the cites and laws. It has at least ten new growths now. Wish I would of tried to save the seeds but hopefully this year.

If you aren't importing or exporting plants, the CITES laws don't apply. As far as rescuing plants that fall down from trees in storms, that's great. I don't think that you will run afoul of any laws, you're just putting it back where it came from.
