First post, first orchid to survive in my house for a year

It's funny how it was finally an orchid that stays in bloom the longest, when I initially struggled to have any orchid keep them for more than a couple of days. With a bit more experience it seems like they are so picky about environments I don't even expect an orchid to not drop all of its flowers when moving places / pots. My GF might have trown this one in the trash too, after those spikes lost their initial blooms almost a year ago.

I hear you, now there's a new one. And looks like the first one is a great bloomer, it has now produced more new blooms than the 3 of the old ones which have withered away and fell off. Interestingly the new blooms are of a visibly different color shade.

Also I think the red spectrum light I have is helping the blooming, but I think the plants look better in normal light. What a dilemma!

Once the flowers have opened, you could take it out of the tent and put in your living space to enjoy. Unless the house is chilly (in which case you could use a heat mat), it will be fine outside of its "cocoon".

Phalaenopsis flowers on the same plant may be quite different, depending on temperatures during bud development. It may affect spots and pink/red pigment.

Heh, I guess the angle ended up being a bit misleading. I wouldn't have that sheet over the glass door and would even keep the door open most of the time, but my GF is so addicted to darkness it was a battle to have even this.

I have considered moving the orchid to the kitchen for example where it would be better displayed, but with the experience I have I'm hesitant to introduce any drastic changes, the humidity and constancy of light in the kitchen would be quite different.

It's now actually repotted in a GHE WaterFarm with just hydro leca instead of soil. Works well passively like this. I don't know can the pH of water change the color? It's different again. It's happy outdoors now but I'll have to watch the weather forecasts for extreme wind or cold.



Some of the flowers are now quite yellow instead of white.

I've personally only seen change in colouring due to change in temp (but never in a phal). If this is being kept outside atm, it could be greater diural temp range or perhaps overall cooler temps. Just a guess though...

pH won't change flower color. (Not a hydrangea!) Temperature and light can lead to variation in color intensity from one blooming to another.

It's actually looking more like green than yellow in some flowers but on photos it doesn't show the green that much for some reason.

Any recommendations what temp range during night / day would be ok, I know summer doesn't last forever unfortunately. At least a night temp of just 10C was fine and moderate wind too.
