This has become a rather large ornamental tree in my yard. It was a volunteer...I now have several, this being the largest. It has these beautiful soft pink flowers arranged in clusters. The leaves, to arrive soon, are cordate (heart-shaped). Anybody have an ID? I thought it looked very similar to redbud, but I'm not a nurseryman and without my college-days dicotomy key, I'm lost.
It probably is Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis, from your description. Redbud has heart-shaped leaves. That's pretty dense flowering and not typical for the ones that grow in woods or tree edges, though.
