Thailand seedlings
Default Thailand seedlings

Hello!

Last year I purchased a grab bag of seedlings online. They were all labeled. What I can find suggests these likely originally came from a Thailand grower but there is no more information on their site.

For example:
A Dendrobium cross of
Black Berry
and
Aredung Light Blue

I can’t find more information in the other standard available online search databases. For others I can’t even find name reference on the Thai site or elsewhere. So, without more information are these effectively considered NOIDs?

They have been fun to grow and have raised my confidence enough that I have branched out to purchases at a local orchid nursery as well as shows. So regardless they are a valuable part of my orchid education (especially for the price).

I think that you will have to settle for NOID. Many of the Thai growers use "trade names", don't register the names officially. The international registrar is the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in the UK, and to register a plant one has to know its "pedigree" and pay a small fee. The bigger growers around the world register their plants, or make crosses with named plants. But there are lots who don't.

So enjoy your plants, they are just as beautiful without names when they bloom. If you post "bloom" photos, members often can make "educated guesses" at least about which groups of Dens might be involved, but an actual ID, impossible.
