What is this?
Found this growing on a tree in Kentucky. Any idea what it is? I know nothing at all about flowers. I'm not even sure if it's an orchid. Apologies for the low quality pic, it was taken back in 2006 with an old flip-phone.

Probably an eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis). Those are widespread in the eastern US.

A friend said they thought it looked like some sort of orchid. Shows what either of us knows! lol
