is there Phal stuartiana in it? Female
Default is there Phal stuartiana in it?

Hi,

I've bought a phalaenopsis hybrid, commercially named "Liodoro". Problem: it does not look like Liodoro 'Sweet Memory'. So, I am trying to figure out one parent species from the leaves, that are quite particular. From pictures, I think it may have Phal stuartiana in it; for the flowers, on the other hand, I have no idea. It smells amazingly; it's a strong scent that fills the house. Why is this information important to me? The flowers are fading away and a new leaf is showing up. I don't know if I should cut the flower stalk as in general phalaenopsis types or should keep it as in polychilos types.
I'd love to hear your ideas.is there Phal stuartiana in it?-img_20220523_192944801-jpg

Orchidroots.com shows the cross is Phal. Sweet Memory and one clone is 'Liodoro'. Your plant doesn't look like Phal. Sweet Memory.

There is also a Phal Liodora, which is Phal Deventeriana (amabilis x amboinensis) (yelllow with white stripes) x Phal violacea ... no photo of the cross in Orchidwiz, but no chararacteristics looking anything like your photo... Actually, yours looks like it has a lot of Phal. equestris in it. (Typical mini-Phal) along with possible stuartiana or one of the other spotted-leaf Phal species.

Not knowing at all what it is, I'd suggest not cutting the spike until brown and crispy. Then there is no chance of getting it wrong. Doesn't hurt to leave it while it's green.

Look at the RHS site. There is no Phal. Liodora. It is a synonym for Phal. Sweet Memory. This is a case of confused names.
