First, welcome!

Any idea of its country of origin? I saw Maxillaria uncata
along the Rio Negro in Brazil, with a similar plant growth habit. Flowers looked a bit different but the ones I saw weren't completely open.

This one is from Mexico. But unfortunately its not the Maxillaria uncata, if I recall correctly the maxillaria does have small pseudobulbs this one does not. It looks like a miniature Isochillus all the way to the roots but I could not find it on the list for the state in Mexico where it came from.

There are some members of the Board who are really knowledgeable about species... hopefully someone will recognize it.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

I don't know what this is. Is it from Mexico?

I'm not sure what it is but don't rule out Maxillaria. The genus is all over the place as far as plant appearance. Sometimes it hard to tell if they are monopodial or sympodial

To me the flower has a "Maxillaria" appearance, but there are some other lesser known genera that it could be. There are few, if any, monopodial orchid species in the New World. (I can't think of any...well, maybe the leafless orchids)

What state in Mexico is this from?

I'm almost sure it's from Veracruz Mexico. They just released a book with over 400 species there. I went through every single one of them and could not match it though. Seems like I might have to revisit the Maxillarias on the list.

I looked at all the Maxillaria and Isochilus entries at orchidspecies.com. It is not there, but I think it is an Isochilus.

Despite European-tradition botanists visiting Mexico for 500 years there are many, many areas that have never been explored and many, many new species to be found.
