Oncidium, Mindo, Ecuador

Hi all
I am totally new to orchids, but through my hobby of amateur photography, I try to learn.
Last month, I was on a trip to Ecuador, and in the city of Mindo (northwest of the capital San Francisco de Quito), i came across a yellow orchid.
I have found out that it is called oncidium, but I have no clue which specific species it is.
If anybody in this forum can help, I would really appreciate it.

This is not an orchid. It is in the Iris family. I'm not an expert in those but perhaps look up genera Tigridia and Neomarica.

I love Mindo! I lived in Quito when I was in collage for a while and I spent a lot of time there. Amazing little town if you love birds or orchids!


Orchids, generally are 'zygomorphic' meaning the flowers have mirror symmetry. Your plant has radial symmetry with very few exceptions means it is not an orchid. Its a dead ringer for a yellow oncidium but Its a plant related closely to iris. Try searching "trimezia"
