I generally use the icy-pole thicker style tag for most of the orchids, printed with UV resistant sticker labels from a brother PT-P700 label printer. Amazingly, those UV resistant labels haven't failed me at all. Impressive. I just have to make sure I order the correct type of label --- the UV resistant kind.

Nice info! Although ----- does that short hand usually appear within the single quotes area eg. L.anceps 'San Bar Giant' ----- L. 'S B Giant' ? Or C. trigrina 'S B Giant' etc

Depends on the person making the tag It's usually where the cultivar name would be; ie L. anceps 'SB Giant', though I have received divisions from 'old-timers' that simply bear the cultivar name alone on the tag [which sort of makes sense if all you grow is L. anceps...]

Just a suggestion:
I have been writing plant names directly on clay pots with graphite pencil or marker (- if using a clay pot -) as well as double plastic tags. I have not tried it on plastic pots.
If a plant is mounted, and there is room on the stick, I write directly on the wood with a 'durable' marker. Of course, you may have to re-trace the marking as it fades. I like this approach when a plant goes to a show...I include my own name as well, so I'm sure it will come home with me.

Happy growing and tagging,
Maryanne
