What's the ancestry of this cattleya?
Default What's the ancestry of this cattleya?

Hello!
Can you help me to identify who are the parents of this mini-cattleya?
The seller says its name is "Julia Red." However, I cannot find any information about this hybrid. I only could find something similar on some Indonesian website and that cattleya was called "Julia Red Power."
Would like to know more about how to care about this plant.

It's adorable! Kinda looks like an SLC. I agree it does look like the Julia Red Power

I don't see anything with a name resembling this on orchidroots.com. The plant has pseudobulbs and leaves that show Sophronitis coccinea ancestry, and a striped lip reminiscent of several Encyclia species like E. aromatica. It will take general Cattleya care and will likely stay small.

Those stripes in the lip look like what I've seen in C. aurantiaca.

I checked the RHS database.

There are multiple orchids registered under the name 'Julia', but none of them are correct for this little intergeneric Cattleya hybrid.

There are no 'Julia Red' or 'Julia Red Power' registrations.

Thank you very much!
Will keep on growing it and hope it will bloom soon.

from the amount of red flowers it produces I'd tip on this one having laelia milleri in its parentage. Probably the guarianthe aurantiaca too as that produces a shorter flower stem like yours has.
I wouldn't know what makes a sophronitis leaf look different to a laelia but they are both relatively cool growers so it shouldn't make much difference to their care.

My guess would be c. milleri crossed with an epicattleya like Epc. Koyoguchi
