Any plant material that is imported needs a phytosanitary certificate. Orchids go to another level, since they're under CITES, being endangered in the wild. So imported plants need evidence that they're nursery-grown as well - the CITES certificate.

When you buy from an established vendor like Ecuagenera, all that import paperwork is taken care of (and built into the price.) Also true of the international vendors at shows (whenever that happens again someday.) But small sellers on places like eBay don't necessarily do that. (They can sell more cheaply that way...as long as they don't get caught)

You also need an import permit to import plant material into the US. There are methods that must be followed. The fine may be for any plant. To learn more go to the USDA APHIS Web site.

Ecuagenera has a wide selection of species, including lots of Draculas. You might want to order from them, as the plants are cheap.
They take care of the permits and stuff, but the shipping can be a bit pricey. Still, the plants are large. You should check their site.

Good trouble... Hopefully they explained their process - They ship from Ecuador about twice a month (accumulate a significant number of orders) to their Florida facility. So that makes the the international shipping and import process much more efficient. Then the plants are packed and shipped to you from within the US. So you may have to wait a bit depending on the timing of those shipments from Ecuador. But well worth the wait.

Thank You! I'm only one orchid number 39 since 2018 when I inherited my aunt's two orchids LOL.
