Thanks Stasisgate,
I think you're right. It seems to like the basket of sphag it's growing in but all those roots make me have to water it two to three times a week. I was originally watering it only once a week with frequent mistings but the wrinkled leaves on the larger new growth notified me that it needed more. Now I water it whenever it feels almost completely dry.

I'm pretty sure that #1 is a Butterfly orchid (Psychopsis, or something in the Oncidium family). Almost positive that #2 is from the Grammatophylum family. Feel pretty strongly that #3 is a Maxillaria, possibly tenuifolia. Here is my Butterfly orchidLet's Play "Name That Orchid"!!-2008_0101xmas0010-jpgLet's Play "Name That Orchid"!!-2008_0504xmas0005-jpg, Gramm. Thanks all.
Now that I have a better idea what I'm dealing with I hope to see some more improvement soon. Although that dang Max. tenufollia still seems to be existing in limbo. Not deterioration but certainly not doing anything. When is their usual growing season?

Actually no... for a while all i could see was a field of green. It took me quite a while before i could find the right conditions to get my kids to flower.

I mean now I have a few in bloom and a few spiking but in between all the excitement, there isn't much going on. Maybe a spike here or a flower there, a grasshopper having a bite, caterpillars feasting away.... you get the picture.

Only one dendrob of mine flower without fail and my encyclia fragrans doesn't seem to want to stop blooming. It's been going for 8 months straight and i can't get enuf of that smell. But don't feel bad cuz all in all I have over 300 orchids and look how few bloom at one time.

Default Onc. sphacelatum In Bloom

Hello all. Just thought you might like to see a picture of number five (Onc. sphacelatum) in bloom.
Each spike has around a hundred flowers on it!
