Dendrobium Or Epidendrum? Female
Default Dendrobium Or Epidendrum?

When I got this orchid last year it didn't have a tag, and depending on the orchid I'm not very good at telling dendrobiums and epidendrums apart. So I was wondering which one is it? Also depending on what it is a few care tips would be appreciated. It's recovered well from the rootloss it had when I purchased it, so now I want to make sure i give it proper winter care and figure out how to encourage it to bloom.

You've done well; it looks healthy. That's a reed-stemmed Epidendrum. Give it lots of light. They aren't picky about temperature. They prefer remaining evenly moist, and not drying out.

Thank you Yaa im glad, I was hopping it was a epidendrum. I can't wait to see what the flowers look like. Thanks for the care advice, I keep it right on the (southern) window sill and it seems to be happy. Do they need a winter rest, in terms of less watering/a little bit dryer? And is there anything I need to do to trigger/encourage blooming and what season do they bloom in?

No rest. When they are larger and conditions are right they flower all year.
