Help reading Tag
I have an orchid with a tag reading: Brsda sp. I can’t figure out the brsda part.

It appears to be a Brassia.
The abbreviation Brsda. suggests it might be a Brassada, but then "sp." suggests it's a species and that doesn't make sense because Brassada would ALWAYS be a hybrid.
Realistically, members of the genus Ada have mostly or entirely been moved into the genus Brassia, so all those old Brassada hybrids would simply be Brassia anyway.

It's common to write "species" or "sp." for a NOID hybrid.

"Brassada" would, indeed, be an intergeneric hybrid of Brassia x Ada. However, Ada has been lumped into Brassia, so now it is likely Brassia, but probably not species, rather a hybrid of a Brassia (original) x Brassia (formerly Ada)

Whew! How do you keep up? Plant taxonomy is sometimes very confusing!🤪
Thanks a bunch!

I do read various orchid publications, so try to keep up. My Orchidwiz database is also really helpful. However, I don't change my tags... I figure as long as I can remember the stuff, I still have a few marbles.

The Brassia species formerly known as Ada, and their hybrids, tend to be more colorful and less arachnoid than this very pale and spidery flower. And the abbreviation for Brassada is Brsa. not Brsda. I think this is probably a non-Ada-type Brassia species or hybrid with a carelessly or cluelessly spelled label. Some clear pictures of the spike and individual flowers might make it possible to see a resemblance to a particular species or well known hybrid.

Exactly. If the tag really has 'Brsda.', then whoever printed the tag needs to fix it up.
