Susie,
Well, right now, there are some mix-ups with the
Laelia. They've been split into genera like
Hadrolaelia (which was now lumped to
Sophronitis),
Hoffmannseggella,
Dungsia, and others. But what people have known as
Sophronitis is the parent I am referring to, such as
Sophr. cernua.
The bulbs are short, slender at the rhizome and wide in the middle, with a single leaf. Using
Sophronitis in a hybrid will usually produce much smaller, compact plants with thick bulbs, such as the one you have pictured.
With
Laelia Section
Crispae, now included into
Sophronitis (as far as I know), the bulbs are much slender. So in the first picture, you had a tag with 'LC.', which is Laeliocattleya (
Laelia x
Cattleya), the slender bulbs would have narrowed it down to that plant.
Cattleytonia is a generic hybrid of
Cattleya x
Broughtonia. The abbreviation is usually 'Ctna.'
