What cut orchid is this?
Default What cut orchid is this?

What orchid is this? This was sold as cut flowers in a local grocery shop. The label was spider orchid but I don't think it is.

This is a Vanda alliance intergeneric. Mokara (Ascocentrum x Arachnis x Vanda) seems to be a likely guess. Very lovely!

They're not hard to grow with proper conditions. They need a lot of light and daily watering. Names change all the time; I agree it is likely what used to be called Mokara, but now they might be called something else. The curved and separated petals are what gives it away.

Cut flowers like these... no problem, just short-lived compared to plants...
