Phal identification

[Transcendental topiary]

Looking for help identifying a phal i got as a gift for the holidays. Tag just said floral. Super helpful!

Closest match i could find is dtps. nobbys pink lady.


I took it out of the compacted sphag it was in, cut out all the dead and rotten roots and I'm letting it dry up a bit before i repot it.

Help is appreciated so i have a better idea of what to repot it in and conditions it would like to be in.

Culture for hybrid Phals is pretty much the same no matter what its parentage... warm temperatures (house temps are fine, preferably not much below 65 deg F/18 deg C at night), well-drained medium that provides "humid air" rather than "wet" - For most people, bark is a good choice. If you don't tend to overwater, sphagnum can also be used. Either way, the goal is to get a "wet-dry" cycle where the roots get nearly dry though not totally dry before the next watering.

I was thinking of doing s/h with leca balls. The one thing really stopping me is that i couldn't get all the sphag off the roots without causing more damage to the already pretty damaged roots from sitting too wet in the compacted sphag. So i did the best i could soaking and rinsing, cut out all the rot and soaked in kelpmax for about 20 min, rinsed again to get the last bit of loose sphag off and Letting it air dry now in the vase so it doesnt get too dry too quick but still is dryer than sitting in it's original pot any longer

SH should work fine... Ray is the expert on that. A bit of the old sphag stuck to the roots shouldn't hurt anything - you were correct in not trying to get it ALL to the detriment of good roots.

Glad to hear I'm doing something right lol
I'm probably going to loose those pretty blooms but at least the plant itself looks in good shape and should bounce back and hopefully have better blooms next time. I was able to get 2 new buds and blooms on the old spike that all the previous buds and flowers blasted off on that haerella retrocalla I've been troubleshooting with you guys here. So hopefully I'll get a similar situation with this phal and the transplant shock wont be too bad with a bit of tlc.

Going to go out tomorrow and grab some leca balls.....

And the collection grows 🤣
