Hey guys,
I tugged this little guy off an orchid that was growing on a tree in Florida. It sat rootless in my cutting jar for 12 months, and right when I had given up it started to grow. Any idea what it could be? My guess is some kind of soft cane dendrobium maybe? Am I way if track? No idea what the original one looked like; sorry there isn’t much to work with.
Thanks!
I agree it does look like a dendrobium. I think you'll have to wait a bit longer to get an exact ID though. maybe someone more experienced will comment. Good luck.
Not likely to be able to ID unless it turns out to be species, but looks like a nobile-type Dendrobium.
Now that the keiki is showing itself, consider laying the cutting horizontally on bark medium, so that the keiki roots have a place to go once they get longer. The're feeding off the old cane, but it's fading, with luck the keiki will be ready to gather its own water and nutrients by the time the "mother" dries up.
