Almost all my complex hybrid Phals can deal fine with brief stints in the low 50s. Fewer can tolerate prolonged exposure to low 50s with dips into the 40s. Very few can tolerate prolonged 40s with dips into the high 30s.
None have up and died, but there’s been moderate to severe damage on plants that were pushed too far without prompt corrective action. I have quite a few that are experiencing “challenging” winter temperatures right now. But, I’ve been making room in the house for those that show signs of cold damage this year. As long as I bring them in at the first sign, I can prevent significant damage. There are some that just can’t overwinter outside.
