Phal. Sweet Memory “Liodoro” - Orchid Board

Hi guys, so here’s my Liodoro in spike. I’ve only had this baby for a few months and bought it in spike. I kept it indoors quarantined but in the same conditions as the rest of my phals. And the buds or I should say spike never developed. After reading some of you mentioned that the summer phals required an increase of warm (.vs. their sisters the regular phals. That get initiated by a drop in temps) I brought this baby outdoors with my Cattleya seedlings. After almost a month of being outside I brought it indoors and three days after and the spike started to develop buds!!!! I am sooo excited!
I had purchased several summer blooming orchids from Seattle Orchids but it was a catastrophe. I’m glad to have gotten this one else where even though I did pay more money. But I feel it was well spent.

Does it really have a great fragrance? I’ve heard some say it smells like citrusy. Do you know anything you can compare it with? Maybe the bellina? I sooo wish it did because I love the Bellina fragrance so much.

For example I once saw a video on YouTube of this girl raving about the neofenitia Falcata and its fragrance, however when I smelled it at the nursery I didn’t like the smell I thought it was more spicy than floral.

I think the scent is quite comparable to bellina, maybe a little more citrusy - mine however is much powerful than bellina - so much so that the entire room can smell of it - which I enjoy.

Not to burst your bubble, but if the spike was already growing, the only thing you did to help it form buds was give it time; the other stuff did nothing.

Granted, most phals do grow faster when warmer...

I don't know about the fragrance or the spike, but the foliage on that plant is BEAUTIFUL!

How wonderful to soon get flowers!

It is very difficult to compare floral scents. Some people pick up different notes than others. Let us know what you think when it is blooming away!

Really? That’s great to know! I’ve never had a summer blooming Phal. So once the flowers fall I should leave the spike as is. I guess I’m thinking this is a sequential bloomer. Is this true?

Mine blooms off spikes that are several years old, it also produces one or two new ones a year - I usually end up cutting old ones off as the plant looks a bit messy after a while.
