Phalaenopsis Growth Pattern? Female
Default Phalaenopsis Growth Pattern?

Hi all!
I have a question: do Phalaenopsis orchids follow a specific growth pattern? More specifically, do they always grow new roots after cranking out a new leaf or 2? I've noticed in my collection that they will not grow any new roots until finishing at least 1 new leaf. I was hoping my rootless rescue orchid would make some roots but instead, it's following the common pattern of my others and is making a new leaf!! The nerve!

Just curious. Thanks for your thoughts 😄

That certainly sounds like my Phals. They don’t have to fully grow a leaf but a leaf will show first pretty much every time.

I never noticed a particular pattern, other than leaf and root growth mostly happening during the warmer and brighter months, which is the period most conducive for growth for these warm loving plants. The one different I notice is that while roots elongate year round, most brand new root growth is in spring/summer, which coincides with leaf growth.
