Default Phalaenopsis Joshua Irwin Ginsberg

Phalaenopsis venosa x bellina

I LOVE this plant. This hybrid's flowers are pretty variable, but this is the general color form that I like. I managed to buy this in bloom, so I knew what I was getting.

The scent on this is one of my favorites of all orchids. It's the perfect mixture of the musky cologne scent of venosa and the citrusy sweet scent of bellina. If they made Froot Loops™ cologne, this would be the scent they'd base it off, I'm sure. It's fragrant enough that I can smell it from across the room at times in the middle of the day.

I grow this warm (in fact I use a seeding heat mat in winter) and fairly bright. It's been in bloom since January and this is the 3rd bloom so far. Unfortunately, once this one goes, there's no sign of more buds for now.

Oh that is very nice, the bellina influence is very strong, I love fragrant phalaenopsis. I wasn't going to buy any more orchids this year, but if I see this hybrid I'll be snapping it up.

These seem to come in two general color forms: bicolor (like mine) and solid magenta-purple. I've also seen photos of clones that are almost solid copper-orange, but those seem much rarer.

I really didn't want a solid magenta-purple so I bought my plant in flower to make sure I got one suitable for my tastes.
