Actually that was worded wrong. My latest one to bloom is almost ready for a picture. Maybe tomorrow. It's a surprise, but here's a hint. It has one spike, 5 branches and 21 buds. It's taking forever to open!

Shannan, you have, somewhere on the web, a picture posted of one of the prettiest Phals. ever! I only found it once and can't find it again. You named the photo "Arch". Can you post for us or PM me with the pic or link? I keep thinking about this Phal!!!!
Thanks,
Al

Took me a while to find the one that you mean... I was pretty blown away by this one too... Unfortunately, I'm not going to have any good news for you. Its a NOID that I picked up at our local supermarket....

The photos are on flickr. This is the one called Arch:

The closest I could come to an ID was one called 'Fang'

Thank you, that's the one. So dark that the other colors just pop.
Think I'll drop the NOID identification and just go with Phal. hybrid............LOL

Any guesses on how many years it's going to take for that change to 'stick'? Every time I start to write P. for Dtps I stop and think......"now someone is gonna yell at me" so I keep the old label going.

Al, Thanks for your kind words! I loved the lip on this one - you're right, it really did 'pop' in contrast to the petals. I had a close up of the lip as my avatar here for a while... Amazing sometimes what you can find in the supermarket!!

Al - I wish they would keep the Dtps name as it's a good indicator that the phal will be on the smaller size a good majority of the time ..
(No worries from me, I won't yell at you )

Hi Dorothy,
I understand your thinking and agree with you but since it's a done deal and "we" weren't asked, how do we deal with it......
I've thought of writing the name of a Dtps like this:
P. (dpts) MinnieHaHa "Flaming Arrow" or:
P. (formerly dpts) Hiawatha "Bison Brown"

Regarding the pictures of the lastest Phal that I will post as soon as the blossom is open enough to get a decent shot. You are correct about the Dtps but a google search I did turned up this.
If the plant has a clonal name it is a Dtps., however, without a clonal name it is a Phal. The label on my plant says P. such and such. Either way mine certainly has Dtps in it's background.

It just seems that everyone is afraid to actually do something about starting the change over. LOL
I've always been the radical, out spoken one......its gotten me into trouble more than once over the years!
Al
