Looking for Phal Wiganiae/ philadelphia Male
Default Looking for Phal Wiganiae/ philadelphia

hello everyone

i'm still pretty newbie here
and I'm looking for phal Wiganiae/ philadelphia which is a primary hybrid between Phal Schilleriana and Stuartiana.

I've tried most of the big nursery websites such as orchids limited, orchids by marlow, Hausermann's orchid, LOC and orchids.com yet couldn't find any.

wondering if anyone knows where or has ways to find one,
I am so obsessed with mottled leaves.

thank you.

Good luck with your search!

That hybrid was originally registered in 1899, and hybrids tend to only be remade if the flowers offer great potential, which by today's standards, it doesn't.

What's today's standards?
I'm always interested in what's the standards today to win an award. For my understanding, phal just getting bigger and rounded which I personally don't really like.
I prefer the wild looking, petals and sepals are more separated with star shapes with more angles.

what do you guys prefer?

I think what it comes down to is "what will sell?", and that tends to be more dramatic, showy flowers.

As far as awards are concerned, that appears to be "bigger", "more floriferous", and "rounder". I can vote for the first two, but am not a big proponent of "rounder", either.

It takes the same amount of space and expense to raise plants with big, showy flowers as it does to raise more demure ones, so which is a commercial establishment more likely to do?
