PHAL. 'SUN RISE STAR'CHIA LIN X TINEY HONEY
Hi All! I purchased this late last November...it came with one spike, and now has a second. The flowers are just starting to open...I am so excited! I love the colors...it is really a nice delicate bright yellow and the lip in the picture is coming out a little more pink then it actually is. I have really been wanting a nice yellow w/ red/pink lip phal and came across this one on ebay....I purchased it from Balden's Orchids....hope I spelled that correctly. Anyways....big big healthy 'chids....I purchased 4 total and at least two of the others are in spike as well...but I think they may take a bit longer before I see anything. Hope you enjoy!

Very nice!
I have purchased from Baldan's Orchids on Ebay too and love the two orchids I received.

Very nice Becca, I love that one! I don't think it's their fault or anything but of I've killed 2 of the 4 phals i've bought from Baldan's and the other 2 are slowly on their way out. Very strange! Like I said I don't think it's their problem but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong since those are the only phals I've ever killed. Who knows!

I have many Phal's from Baldan's and they are fantastic.Baldan's has them planted in spag moss, which is a no-no for me, as I tend to over water ,so I transplant mine as soon as I get them into a bark mixture. Are you over watering them? I have lost quite a few to my over watering.

Well I did repot them into a sphag mixture that contains perlite and cork chunk to break up the mixture. because they were in just moss...it is a mixture sold for phals from a company that sells some pretty good products. But.....I have noticed since they are in 5" pots, that it is still taking a while for the potting medium to dry out....I think I have probably rotted a few of the roots I am sure, but I am making an effort to not wet the mixture as much when I do water....it is hard with such a large sized pot. Sometimes I won't water for two weeks and I know that isn't good. I have been thinking of trying just a pure bark potting medium from an article I read about growers using just bark and having great success. How often do you have to water your phals in the bark mixture?

Are you keeping it in your orchidarium?
I hardly water my coupla little Paphs that I have in my Exo-Terra terrarium. I water throughly only once every week and a half to two weeks. I guess because the humidity is quite high and the temps intermediate, they seem to stay on the slightly dry-ish side, barely moist. . .which seems just right, at least this time of year. I am seeing new growth and good leaf color.
The bark I am using is for seedlings but I added a good bit of the larger sized bark and threw in a few chunks of charcoal as well.

I don't have any of my Phal's in my orchidarium, all my Phal's are planted in air-cone pots with a mixture of bark, perlite, and charcoal. The humidity here is about 40%-65% so I water about 2-3 times a week.
