Temp drops needed for phal bellina and phal equestrian?

Hi Everyone,

I have non specialty phaelanopsis but jyst acquired a phal bellina and phal equestris. Do these two phals still like a temp drop at night? Thanks all for reading!

Neither species does.

Phalaenopsis bellina prefers warm to hot conditions at all times. Phalaenopsis equestris (note spelling - autocorrect changed it to "equestrian" for me, too) can handle temps a few degree cooler (upper 60's to low 70's min), but neither receives a winter chill in nature.

The requirements for a period of reduced growing temperature is not because those plants are hybrids, it is because of the particular species on their background. Those species require it, too.

Not this kind of Phal. That advice is for the hybrids with rounded, white to pink to buff flowers. They initiate spikes in winter/spring. The star-shaped ones with very glossy light green leaves need to be warm to hot all year. They flower in summer.

Maybe it's just me, but the way I read this the OP is asking about a differential between day and night temperatures?

As already mentioned, these species are warm growers and will enjoy 25-30C day time temperatures. A night time drop is definitely good, but make sure you don't let it go lower them say 18C. I personally try to give a 5-6C drop at night, but I never go lower then 20C with these guys.. I try to provide in winter 25C day and 20C at night. Summer is more like 30C day and 24C night. Works well for me...

IMO a constant temperature 24/7/365 is not ideal and far from nature!

And just to clarify, I'd grow it warmer all year long but I can't really do this in my northern climate!
