Default Phal. Tying Shin Fly Eagle 'Wilson'

I posted a picture or two of this one a couple of days ago, remarking on how the coloration of the recent bloom was a bit different from that of a previous flower. The plant decided to outdo itself, and has one flower open on each of two stems; what fascinates me about it, though, is the rather than being the same the two flowers are essentially mirror images of one another. I've grown Phals for decades but haven't before had a hybrid do this.

Lovely. Tetraspis contributes to this type of coloration. Looks like a Big Leaf Orchid plant...Peter grows them so very well.

It just got better, Shannon. In the above photo's upper left corner you can see a third bud. I've been watching that bud since the two mirror flowers opened and wondering which petal would be yellow on it. Last night, as the flower was opening, I wanted to pry it a bit farther so I could see (I resisted). So to be a true contrarian, on today's flower NEITHER petal is yellow! Pardon the photo - i took it with my phone rather than a real camera:

I am so thrilled to have this orchid. One plant with three different flowers, all open at the same time. Oh, and just to REALLY make you want to come steal it, it's fragrant, too.

Thank you for sharing John.

Like the species parent Phal tetraspis/speciosa - color is affected by light and temperature. Warm/bright light tend to bring out red color in sepals/petals. I have a customer Steve in Florida whose flowers so far are showing all red. He commented that the fragrance is fruity.

In another season or two we would see this plant blooming with 10+ flowers on multiple spikes.
