Random color segment is due to species parent Phal speciosa.

Hi Peter and all,

Considering its color variations, how do you expect this clone to breed concerning color? My gut is that flowers will be of a consistent color with red being dominant, but this is just a gut feeling looking through former crosses using similar speciosa as a parent. Do you also feel this plant would make a better pod or pollen parent because of its inconsistent (but truly lovely) color patterning.

Christian

Hi Christian, I haven't used this cultivar for breeding. Currently I'm waiting to bloom hybrids made with Phal Tying Shin Fly Eagle 'Long' AM/AOS. It has better form, and color is consistently red - not fluctuate by light and temperature. My goal in these hybrids are to have more floriferous reds

Without experiment, I do not know what specific plant to pair with to get more progeny that exhibit this random color patterning. For example, if pair with species violacea/bellina that tend to spread out color - the progeny likely to have solid color.
