This one came from Peter Lin last August as an unbloomed seedling. This flower is on the slightly older of two spikes, the second of which is just beginning to bud. When I first saw Peter's photos of the flower I was fascinated by it but I mostly grow species and so almost passed. For a whole long day, in fact, which is monsterous for me! To my eye, the photos I've seen of this lovely bloom truly fail to do it justice (as does mine).
It's fairly large, at least among my collection (most of which are smaller species). I'd guess perhaps a 13" leaf span. I could just squeeze an equestris under the largest leaf. It looks very much like my bellinas, both in size and appearance. The flower's maybe 1 1/2 inches.
