Default Phal Noid

This one has been around awhile, first bought it as a mature blooming plant around 6 years ago. The first couple years it bloomed faithfully then never saw another bloom until this year. I used epsom salts for a couple months in the fall, so perhaps that had something to do with it...

Beautiful NOID! Barbara
Congrats on the success of getting this one to bloom again

Here is an article on Epsom Salts and Orchids which may satisfy your curiosity - How are Epsom salts Magnisium Sulfate) used in orchid culture? - Orchids
It had also been address in this past thread - http://www.orchidboard.com/community...d-orchids.html
I hope this helps

That is a lovely flower, Barbara. The purple/magentas are my favorite phals-- they just glow at you from 20 or more feet away.

What is the prevailing hue-- purple or magenta?

Thanks, it has been worth the effort, one of the few phals that will actually perform for me.

There wasn't any sunlight when I took the picture so some of the intensity of the colour was lost, but it's more of a magenta hue.

Thanks for the links Dorothy, I did read these threads originally, it's where I got the epsom salt idea from, but I didn't have a good deal of success with the experiment. It actually did a fair amount of damage to the phals in our collection. I'll try to find the time to post about it on the above thread.

I want one of those! I can find tons of pure purple ones... but none with that pattern.... two of my phals didn't bloom for two years, but finally bloomed this year!

... k i have a question to post within this thread: :when my phals re bloom, they normally only have 5-6 flowers, with shorter stems than when I purchased them. is this normal?
