Pelouric or what? - Orchid Board

i rescued this delightful little noid about a year ago with three spikes, 2-3 blooms each. it's blooming again with one spike and 7 flowers. now the weird thing is the way the flowers opened. take a look:

i recall last year's blooms being a lot smaller and "standard" looking. any ideas what might have caused this mutation..?

To get back to the question you are asking, I will quote directly from this source -
"The presence of peloria is genetic, but expression of peloria may be influenced by environmental changes or by being stressed. These are not always stable, and the plant may flower normally on the next inflorescence.
While some peloric orchids pop up haphazardly, others are being bred, mericloned and marketed."

Once again Dorothy you are amazing

I have a yellow phal that has a keiki. Both have spikes but the flowers on the parent plant are peloric as they were last year and the flowers on the keiki are normal. I expected that they'd be the same, peloric....Oh well

I purchased a peloric phal several years ago that has such a pretty color. It bloomed twice - the first time the blooms were peloric, the second time they were normal! It is currently in spike and I'm anxious to see what the results will be this time. I was disappointed when they were no longer peloric, but still love the plant no matter what!

Update:

My phal opened today and Lo and Behold! The flowers are peloric! The tag says it is Taipei gold x Brother Lawrence and I am amazed that it will bloom normally or peloric.

Here's the little peloric mini that I picked up not too long ago. Its in a 2 inch pot - and the neatest thing is that the flowers open from the tip of the spike backwards down the spike. I've never seen a Phal do that before.
