Hi guys --
Well I sympathize with you all in those upper regions of North America (canada)! We are in NYC, and on eastern Long Island, NY (where we have a small greenhouse), and so we have good conditions a lot of the time here. But when it's cold here, it's probably about as cold as it gets (at least it feels that way)! I've often wondered how you do it - grow orchids in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Anchorage, etc...! It's great to hear from you! Are any of you members of AOS?

marianne: No, im not a member of AOS . I live in montreal, so its not as cold as the other places you mentionned! But, we get rly nice summers here, which is great for orchids! On the first frost free date (may 24) out they go! (as long as the weather is nice!)..

unfortunately, the nights are below 10C towards the end of august and september, even though the days are rly hot! I keep my phals out longer than my others, to promote spikes!

lol As a Canadian ex-pat I can definitely empathize with you guys in cold weather! That was one of the major reasons my family left Canada in '96 for warmer regions in the US!

As for the new "outdoors growing forum" I sent Marty a message seeing what he thought about the idea. In addition to year round outside growers, I think such a forum would also help our more Northerly friends as well because many of you guys grow outside for atleast part of the year. I'll follow up and let you know what Marty thinks!

Oh oh! Monster Phal is in trouble. It has been in the house for about 2 weeks now and I think it is beginning to suffer. The leaves are very wilted! Not all of them but quite a few. Mainly on the 2 smallest plants (keikis). All the leaves look great but when you touch them they are limp as a rag (not solid like usual phal leaves). The two most wilted leaves are the newest (center) leaf on 2 of the small plants. There are many nice green roots, mixed in with the jungle of dead roots. I hate moss! I can't gauge my watering with it! I think the plant got too dry in the house from the air-conditioning and now the moss is wet, but the plant is still wilted! It is only just starting to bloom! The bloom spikes, buds, and flowers are all fine. If nothing goes wrong it could easily end up with 60+ flowers. I am going to post this in another forum with pictures later today. Please, any suggestions?

Marty ended up creating an outdoor growing forum!! Its under the STYLES, SETUPS & ENCLOSURES section. I just wanted to let everyone know and also to appologize for hijacking this thread. My bad.
