Do Phals Etoliate?
Hey, I was just wondering if my Phal is etoliating or not. I've had it a while and it's put out a few new leaves. Every leaf is getting narrower and longer. The color seems to be fine. It's just that the leaves are getting long and narrow.
Is this plant etoliating because it needs more light, or could this just be the plants growth habit? It's in a fairly bright area with no direct sunlight all day. We have a lot of glass in our house. Thanks.

Almost any green plant will become etiolated if light levels are too low, and it sounds like your Phal is showing some signs. What seems bright to the human eye can be pretty dim in terms of plant growth. Phals do vary in leaf proportions, but if there has been a change since you got it there must be something about your conditions that contributes to the change. You haven't said anything else about your care and conditions, and a picture might help to be sure.

I'll try to get a picture when I get home. As far as care, I have it in the pot it came in. I don't see a lot of root growth, but the media looks fine. It's in a clear plastic pot, inside of a heavier pot to prevent tipping. I fill it up with water to the top of the media and soak once a week. I plan to repot with some sphagnum moss as the leaves have showed a very slight amount of wrinkling.
