Talking Adorable Grocery Store Phal Find!

Hello All!

I just joined this forum, and am really enjoying it so far! But I'm sorry if this post doesnt quite belong here, I'm still learning where everything is!

Sooo, my bf thinks its cute I've started to collect orchids, but I hate bugging him all the time with "exciting news" like "LOOK LOOK A NEW NUBBIN'!!" Hahaa so I figured I can share some stories on here! Today I went to the jewel osco by my house, and since it is so close to Easter, I HAD to "CASUALLY" stroll by the tiny flower display, and oh my goodness, did they have a decent phal selection! Of course, they were crazy expensive for my pocket book's sake, but wow the color choices were some I have never seen in a grocery! Usually its just the white, pink, or artificial blue ones. Some of these were pale yellow with deep red splotches, and a really neat HUGE (5 or 6 spikes!) deep purple one. These bigger ones with 2-4 spikes were $40 or $50, though. I almost took pictures, but realized thats weird for a normal person to do lol. I personally am rarely drawn to a phal (they have to quite uniquely colored!), but the minis and compact ones get me every time! Soooo, I had to get one! Unfortunately, this little cutie doesn't have a name I am pretty sure its a mini?? Or a very small compact one. I am not sure what qualifies as a mini. Does anyone have a clue what it could be?? I rarely impulse buy, but the bright almost florescent purple stole my heart! (and purse strings lol) I would love to know its name, even though I bet its near impossible :/ Thanks for any ideas on what it might be though!--also, if anyone knows how to flip pics...I would love to know how!

It is very pretty, I can totally understand why it stole your heart. And lets be honest, you really needed a new Orchid for Easter. In fact come to think of it, I believe I need a new one for Easter as well. sorry I can't help, I'm new to Orchids as well.

I've always liked these "peppermint candy" like phals. Strangely I have never gotten any. This is really pretty!

Right?? I immediately sent a pic to my boo thang and said "Happy Easter to me!". Hes the one that got me started on orchids by buying me one for my birthday. Haha hes the source of the orchid bug that bit me!

Yes, yes! You DO need a new one! And peppermint candy is a great way to describe that pattern! I am such a fan of the splotchy, stripey, watercolor-like ones. So neat!

My boo thang started this hobby by buying me my first "ice cube orchid" phal. Which naturally I dehydrated nearly to death, and food....whats that?? But its doing much better now, poor thing! Putting out a slow but lovely new leaf, much brighter green than the previous ones. I'm hoping bigger too...buuuut not getting my hopes too high. My BT at least likes to look at orchids with me. he just likes to do without all the sciency stuff, which is what I love. After awhile, I might try my hand at keiki paste cloning. But thats pretty far from now. Baby steps! I do appreciate how this hobby has me practicing patience though. Brings a whole new meaning to "stop and smell the roses"...well, orchids. You can't just stop and smell them! You have to stop, sit, wait, worry, water, not water, feed, pray, and MAYBE be able to try and smell them! ;D Sassy little things!
