thoughts on this crazy phal hybrid
So I'm attending two shows back to back, this weekend and possibly next, money is short this month... and guess what, I'm at the supermarket late last night and i pick up a hybrid phal... should someone just shoot me in the head?
Anyway, you may see why i got it... it's a bizarre thing... looks like a primary cross of some sort flattened and morphed into something almost grotesque, or at least that's how i see it... the wonders of hybridizing...
it actually was tagged... P. Young home princess... and it's sold under the gubler label(!)... with a little research, young home is a line of phal breeding by a grower in Taiwan, most of their phal catalog is more like multi-generation big box store ready types... this one must be a miss of some sort...
so am i weird for thinking this is unique? or do you *hint* fully support this purchase? (ok so it was 10 bucks, on sale...)

Lol, well- in my opinion there is always a reason to love a plant when you see it in real life😎
Its really freaky, so I guess I would love it for that reason👍🏻 I am actually a plant/root person and only sees the flower as bonuses. (Even though my plants usually give me nice bonuses beacuse I keep the plant and roots happy).
I am saving for a show in september, and have been a nice girl and have resisted buying any at shops this year! (Well, ordered some flask I got last month- but no plants).
I support any purchase of orchids😂 👍🏻 Its special, and you can spend bucs on the show and then eat bread the rest of the month- problem solved😎😜

It is very pretty. The lip is cool with the spots and the 3 frilly parts, plus the bloom is a pretty color.

I really like it. P. Yu Pin Fireworks (this plant's grand parent) has a strange lip so that is possibly where it got it from.

The quality would be considered pretty good, so you got a $50 plant. Probably from a cross that was mostly unimpressive so was dumped on the mass market and you got the good one.

well, this this is fun to know, thanks for this... yeah the breeding result here seemed to eerily precise to just be random, on other hand eerily spot with desirable qualities, whose combination may not be reading for a wedding, to just be found at a supermarket, but there it was. I also randomly found a Paph. Greyi at the market, you can imagine my joy...
yes, the big lip thing is newish popular thing these days, the new 'peloric' perhaps...

thanks for this, where do you find parentage on complex hybrids? Looked up that grand parent, even that looks pretty hybrid looking, funny how a generation forward the breeder headed towards more natural qualities on this one like the spotting and color...
