Default Frustrated with Phals

Hey everyone, so I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can provide answers for.

I have three phalaenopsis currently, none of which have bloomed for at least two years, although there have been some new leaves, there haven't been many of them.

I have them potted in a mix of moss, bark, and clay pellets for breathing room, and they are all placed in a South facing window with some shading so they don't burn. None of the leaves are purple.

I have them placed up as close to the windows as I can get them without touching but I'm still not seeing any changes. Any recommendations on what I may be doing wrong? I suspect my culture is wrong as well and I may not be watering enough, I've always understood that I should let the medium almost dry out with phalaenopsis.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Have they been getting an extended (6-8 weeks) cool down period at night in the fall? That is what triggers new bloom spikes.

Do you fertilize them?

I do fertilize using MSU, a little bit often instead of using a lot rarely.

And I think so? I mean, the house has been cooler and they're up against the window so they should be getting cooler...

Don't know the temps inside the house/where the plants are unfortunately. I can't do much else to get them colder though except by putting them in the garage.

Outside, it's been cold as Hell, I'm in Canada so we're been getting like -15/-20 here.

Anto indoors? And what's the temp in the garage, relatively to indoors? How much do you think the difference is?

The garage is freezing, I can't imagine they'd survive out there. I'd be shocked if it wasn't below zero even though it's attached.

I don't understand what you mean by "Anto indoors?"

Just a typo. It was meant to be "And indoors?".

Well, that's too cold for phals. I think your best option is to put them out/in when the temp differential is enough and not too much.
Or you can build a terrarium with a lower temp inside. Just an idea....

Usually if you give them a chill, even for 2 weeks in the fall it triggers bloom. I put mine on a very cool ledge of the greenhouse end of Oct. for 2 weeks and 4 of the 5 presented spikes a few weeks later, even almost on the same day for all of them. I would say no lower than 50F but there needs to be some difference from their usual, like 10 or 15 degrees to trigger bloom.
