Phalaenopsis re-blooming? Male
Default Phalaenopsis re-blooming?

Hello,

I got this beautiful Phalaenopsis 'Happy Dancer' as my first orchid (in September this year) in full bloom. It had, however, dropped all its flowers in less than 2 weeks. I had re-potted it and found that more than 40% of the roots were rotting and that the media was extremely compact and infested with strange bugs.

I removed the rotting roots, disinfected it and re-potted it in a mixture of Orchiata bark, lava rock and a little bit of coconut husk. I also cut the flower spike as I was advised, a little under the node where the first bloom had sprouted. It quickly responded to my care and started putting out new roots in about 3 weeks. Today I see some new development on the flower spike.

I had a few questions, please. Could this orchid be re-blooming? Should I provide any extra care if it is?

Thanks in advance for your help!

These plants are truly fascinating!

Hansu

Hello Hansu

Examining your photograph, I think you do have another spike developing. Congratulations!

Phal's will often throw a lateral spike after the main spike is done blooming and after a brief rest. It looks like that is what your plant is doing.
