Lowe's is the only place here who consistently has orchids, mostly Phals and something called Intergeneric orchids?? They are putting their orchids on a clearance rack once they lose blooms. They usually look pretty bad, but I will watch for one with a good root system on any I like. What are the Intergeneric Orchids?

I had bought one from my local Lowes and it looks very similar to that one same veins and color! Unfortunately my store does not leave the tags so I think I can ID mine now. However I did not care too much to ID because I just liked it so much!

Nana Trish, I love when Lowes puts phals on clearance! Mine does like $4 and the decorative pot is worth that. I usually repot and rescue them in cheap clay pots and use the decorative for my other orchids :-)

Intergeneric orchids means an orchid produced by two different plants. For example, when you cross a Vanda with a Phalaenopsis. In order to produce a plant, the parents need to be close enough genetically. However the progeny may be non fertile.

In the animal world, a donkey and a horse may be close enough genetically but the progeny, a mule, is infertile.

Really lovely!

The name is written strangely. It appears to be a cross between the two names listed, but I've not seen them written with brackets like that before. Your's matches other pictures of the cross through.

It is a very pretty color!
No idea where that lip comes from. It would be interesting to know, though.

Have you ever ordered from them, looks like they have a lot of unique orchids.

I have not since I just came upon the site last night but I must read their site to get the specifics if I do end up splurging a bit!

Very nice to see this less common type of Phal bloom. Good growing.

Yu Pin Fireworks x Yu Pin Ocicat is Yu Pin Infrared Ray. It seems likely that is what we're looking at here despite the odd format of the label.

In mass market distribution, "intergeneric orchid" usually means Oncidium alliance hybrids of any type - even some that are not intergeneric. It just became the usual practice in the industry. Correctly, it is any orchid hybrid that combines 2 or more genera in any combination - very common among almost all types of orchids.
