Have you ever bought an orchid that you later thought "What was I thinking"? This is mine. A NOID that I still can't figure out what attracted me to it in the first place. It does have a very slight fragrance, though.

Yours is pretty enough...I can see the appeal. I know that I definitely have orchid moods where I'll focus on a specific genera, or what I find to be new and interesting. For a while I was collecting brassia and intergenerics with brassia, then it was epidendrum, and now it's catasetinae. Other things sneak in, but I tend to have my taste switch genera.

My "What was I thinking?" is a now dead dyakia hendersoniana. I see it at shows and online, but can't figure out why I bought it in the first place.

Whether we're successful or not with our plants,I for one will buy just to lift my spirits from time to time. And if the bloom is as nice as this,it's a no brainer! Enjoy.

Is this a mini? I have one sort of like it, I really think it's pretty and mine smells really good. Can't put my finger on what it smells like and it doesn't smell when you walk into the room or anything but I just sit it by my chair and I smell it every night.

I do get how you can sometimes look at some you thought were so cool and now not so much. Or I see different kinds and I'm like meh don't really like them and then some times you look again and your like I am in love. I was this way with my Twinkle. I was given to me by a friend and it always bloomed for me but I didn't like it much

Now I just love it and so I take better care of it and now it blooms better for me and they last longer.

You know, I could help you out and take it off your hands for you. I think it's quite lovely but I do understand what you mean. My first what was I thinking moment was when I got my Wilsonara Pacific Passage 'Peach Cobbler'. Don't get me wrong it's very pretty & fragrant but what made me say "What was I thinking?" was how BIG it is.

I too reward myself with orchids and those impulse buys (i.e. b/c it's cheap on ebay and the auction is about to end) aren't always so rewarding to look at later. But yours is rather pretty, maybe someone will trade with you!

Nice little thing, though.
I am pretty bad at this, I confess. I have bought quite a few orchids that, a few months/years later, I realize I really don't like.
Of course, then there are the ones I buy feeling pretty certain I just did a very stupid thing yet, they turn out to be favorites. I bought the Platystele stenostachya because my kids saw it and thought it was neat and I have become quite fond of that one. Then there is the Mormolyca ringens bought on whim just because it is a frequent bloomer and fragrant...the odd little flower always makes me smile.

I think it's really pretty. I usually get the 'what was I thinking' if I buy something I have no idea how to care for. Oh yeah, and recently I get it when I buy anything at all as I don't have space, or the time to care for more.
