Hi Al and Sara!
Just to let you know, Longfellow's will be having an orchid day on Feb. 9th. They haven't announced it yet, but will be soon. They have many orchids shipped in and give talks about how to care for them....just in time for Valentine's Day!
I went Friday, and they had some new orchids just in the day before. There was one beautiful little yellow Oncidium (only one) that had one open spike and one yet to open. It was in a 2" pot for $14.99 (I almost grabbed it) and a bunch of Zygo's (in bigger pots of $20-30 range) with the usual Phals. She had a few Paph's (also in 2" pots with a blossom coming). I would guess there were several in the 2" pots that were beginning to blossom....just young plants.... for $14.99 each.
I mainly went for Bonsai fill and fertilizer, and didn't have any extra money on me....and my better half looking at me with the "don't you dare" eyeballs.
Besides, he bought me some nice things earlier that day, so couldn't push the orchid purchases....that day, anyway.
Wouldn't it be fun to go to that orchid day and get a chance to meet?????? The talks are pretty basic, nothing we haven't learned already, but the plants are abundant and quite a variety. The woman working in the houseplant section has three or four orchids at home and I think she is the one trying to get more people interested. Last year was the first year and many people came. So that's it...in a nutshell....a very long one, however!
