Ok, very new to orchids & I wanted to start with the easiest to work with, Phals. I have one I got from Home Depot on sale for $8 in bloom. It was marked as a Phal Hybrid. I believe i've tracked it down to be a Baldan's Kaleidoscope 'Golden Treasure'.
Anyways, it had about 2-3 fully bloomed when I bought it & over the past 2 weeks that i've had it, its begun to have other blossoms bloom. I didn't sit & watch per se, but I check them every AM & saw a bloom beginning to open, & checked it later in day & it was mostly open & by night it was fully opened. I have had a bloom that was already open before the one mentioned & it has sat with the sepals open, but the petals are closed around the lip & don't fully open.
After the blossom that fully opened, I have had 2 others open the sepals but the petals still stay around the lip. It is very odd & makes me think I am doing something wrong. I give the plants
misting with distilled water 2-3 times per day on the leaves & flowers. They are kept in a room around 60F with a ceiling fan on low in about a 8-9ft tall room, so it has good air circulation. 2 windows in the room, a west & north window with good indirect light on the plants. Has been gloomy & cloudy over the past week or 2 quite a few days.
I can't post pics yet, but I can upload them under my photo album for you to see.
